The campground was right on US 2, but we lucked out and got a site as far from the road as they had available.\u00a0\u00a0 Since we arrived on Friday afternoon, we decided to wait till Monday morning to hit the Going to the Sun Road in an attempt to miss the crowds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-138.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4601\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-138-150x113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-138-150x113.jpg 150w, small town of Whitefish, MT, parked the car near the train depot and checked it out while close by.\u00a0\u00a0 Just as we got around back, a freight train decided to pull out.\u00a0\u00a0 They sure have long trains out here,\u00a0 had to be a few hundred tank cars being pulled out by BNSF locomotives front and rear, although it took about 15 minutes to find <a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-137.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-4600\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-137-150x113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-137-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-137-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-137-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-137-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>out there was one in the rear.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Checking the flammability placards, they were all loaded with alcohol.\u00a0 \u00a0It doesn&#8217;t specify what type, but probably not the drinking kind.\u00a0\u00a0 It appeared that no Amtrak trains were due today as the depot building was closed, so we headed over toward the main part of town.<\/p>\n<p>Whitefish is a pretty nice place to walk around,\u00a0 lots of covered <a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-136.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4599\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-136-113x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"113\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-136-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-136-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GlacierNP-136-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 113px) 100vw, 113px\" \/><\/a>sidewalks lining the streets,\u00a0 even benches every little while to relax on while Kathy perused each shop along the way.\u00a0\u00a0 We passed by lots of small restaurants and bars where the food smells were making me hungry, so we started in the direction of the car and our picnic lunch.<\/p>\n<p>There was a big log framed gazebo in the park across from the train station, and we ate our lunch there in the shade with a nice breeze.<\/p>\n<p>Afterward we drove around the lake on the north end of town;\u00a0 mainly it was
