{"id":4404,"date":"2018-07-20T17:00:23","date_gmt":"2018-07-21T00:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/?p=4404"},"modified":"2018-07-19T17:45:45","modified_gmt":"2018-07-20T00:45:45","slug":"sliding-over-to-electric-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/2018\/07\/20\/sliding-over-to-electric-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Sliding over to Electric City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We left the Port Townsend area Sunday morning with a quick navigation around the the asphalt sealing team that was about to start the second half of the park road repairs.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We headed south toward Tacoma and Galloping Gertie.\u00a0\u00a0 Well, I guess it&#8217;s really the replacement for Galloping Gertie.\u00a0 \u00a0I noticed the Tacoma Narrows Bridge on the map and that reminded me of a video we watched as a kid.\u00a0\u00a0 It was on one of the routes we could take east, and that settled the path to take for me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4443\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-001-150x113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-001-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-001-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-001-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-001-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Today as we got close, I could see there are two spans now.\u00a0 Each looks different.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;m wondering if they reused the old towers for one of the spans?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Once over the bridge and onto I5 north, we hit a lot of traffic.\u00a0 Sunday morning?\u00a0\u00a0 Geez.\u00a0 \u00a0Between Seattle and now Tacoma, I think they are attempting to wrest the &#8220;worst traffic&#8221; award away from LA.<\/p>\n<p>We took a shortcut over to the I-90 that, based on all the red I-5 roadway on google maps, would save us a bunch of time sitting in bumper to bumper traffic.\u00a0\u00a0 We made it to Cle Elum fairly early in the afternoon and pulled into the park to check in.\u00a0\u00a0 We got a shady spot, which was good as the thermometer said it was 101 degrees there.\u00a0\u00a0 We parked in a pull-thru site, so there was no need to detach the car in this heat either which was very nice.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Luckily we were still up in the mountains not far from the Snoqualmie Pass, so not down <a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4444\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-002-150x113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-002-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-002-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-002-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-002-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>in the desert which is eastern Washington.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We were off early the next morning before 10 and crossed the Columbia River again about an hour later down in what looked like desert all around. \u00a0 After a bit we started heading north off I-90 toward Soap Lake.<\/p>\n<p>That is one large lake out there.\u00a0 Not sure how it doesn&#8217;t just evaporate away with all the heat we were experiencing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After finally passing Soap Lake &#8212;\u00a0 which took a long time &#8212; then there <a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-4446\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-004-150x113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-004-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-004-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-004-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/GrandCoulee-004-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>was another long, large lake and another after that.\u00a0 We were to stay on Banks Lake, which looked to be another in that long line of large lakes in the middle of nowhere.<\/p>\n<p>We filled up along that way at Shree&#8217;s Truck stop in George, Washington,\u00a0 Nice Name!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Diesel fuel was a reasonable $3.32.\u00a0 It looks like it may go down when we hit Montana.\u00a0\u00a0 The odd part about Shree&#8217;s was the cash price was only 1 cent less than the credit price.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Most places that have both prices have been 10\u00a0 cents difference.\u00a0\u00a0 So the 1 cent doesn&#8217;t really make sense when my Costco Visa gives me a 4% rebate on fuel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We left the Port Townsend area Sunday morning with a quick navigation around the the asphalt sealing team that was about to start the second half of the park road repairs.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We headed south toward Tacoma and Galloping Gertie.\u00a0\u00a0 Well, I guess it&#8217;s really the replacement for Galloping Gertie.\u00a0 \u00a0I noticed the Tacoma Narrows Bridge &hellip;
