{"id":2988,"date":"2017-10-19T17:56:50","date_gmt":"2017-10-20T00:56:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/?p=2988"},"modified":"2017-10-19T08:57:34","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T15:57:34","slug":"starting-the-trek-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/2017\/10\/19\/starting-the-trek-west\/","title":{"rendered":"Starting the Trek West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We left Savannah early on Friday morning so we could be past downtown Atlanta before their afternoon rush hour.\u00a0 Only rest stop I could find for the whole trip was closed for construction, so we used fuel stations to walk the pups and ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>I had never stopped at a Loves truck stop before so it was a learning experience.\u00a0 First thing is you cannot pay at the pump with a credit card, you must go inside the store.\u00a0\u00a0 They appear to have two pumps for each bay,\u00a0 but I was not sure how you made the other pump work as there wasn&#8217;t any controls.\u00a0 I have filler caps on both sides, so I could have used both had I been able to get it to work.\u00a0\u00a0 As it was, those massive diesel nozzles on the pump filled my tank very quickly just using one of them.\u00a0 [Walking the dogs over to a tiny bit of grass\/weeds was scary in between those huge trucks making very loud noises, but the pups did OK, just a little skitterish!]<\/p>\n<p>We camped overnight in a pull -thru at a place called Cane Creek RV campground in Heflin, Al, just over the border from Georgia.\u00a0 Really nice campground a couple miles from the interstate.\u00a0 Real quiet there.\u00a0\u00a0 We wanted to get to Red Bay early to have a better chance at getting an RV site at the Tiffin Service Center as it&#8217;s first come first served.\u00a0 No reservations.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We left there before 8am in an attempt to make that happen.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, Hurricane Nate was heading for Alabama that weekend.\u00a0 We were not sure what Sunday was going to bring our way!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We left Savannah early on Friday morning so we could be past downtown Atlanta before their afternoon rush hour.\u00a0 Only rest stop I could find for the whole trip was closed for construction, so we used fuel stations to walk the pups and ourselves.
