{"id":2355,"date":"2017-08-24T09:05:21","date_gmt":"2017-08-24T16:05:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/?p=2355"},"modified":"2017-08-24T09:05:21","modified_gmt":"2017-08-24T16:05:21","slug":"heading-toward-bar-harbor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/2017\/08\/24\/heading-toward-bar-harbor\/","title":{"rendered":"Heading toward Bar Harbor."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We took two days of driving to get to the coast from Schroon Lake, NY.\u00a0\u00a0 We drove off to find US 4 outside of Lake George thru Vermont and up and over the mountains around Killington, which I used to think were tall mountains when going there for skiing.\u00a0\u00a0 I was shocked when we passed Killington Peak and I hadn&#8217;t noticed we were in the mountains yet.\u00a0\u00a0 I guess I am really jaded by the 9 and 10 thousand foot passes we traversed out west.\u00a0\u00a0 I noticed those!<\/p>\n<p>Once past there, I was looking for the freeway that headed up toward \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 St. Johnsbury so we could meet up with US 2 again.\u00a0\u00a0 Hadn&#8217;t been on it since Michigan where it went into Canada and we had to head south due to not having our passports with us.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude41\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And the freeway was actually free. \u00a0 I got to test out my Ipass\/EZpass in Ohio and NY to the tune of about $50 so far.<\/p>\n<p>Back to finding US 2,\u00a0 we missed the turn for the road that went diagonally northeast that would cut off quite a bit of miles and time and we had to head back down there.\u00a0 It got a bit nerve racking when we came upon the 10&#8242; clearance sign.\u00a0\u00a0 But we stayed the course and made it back to US 302 unscathed.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Took it over the US 3 and then to 115, which may have been a New Hampshire road and it brought us over to US 2. \u00a0t\\Then it was just a short jaunt to Shelburne, NH for the night.<\/p>\n<p>We camped in a place called Timberland and the name fit,\u00a0 It was like we were in the middle of the woods that night.\u00a0\u00a0 5 feet behind our coach was a steep drop-off and a railroad track at the bottom.\u00a0\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t want to back it in too far..<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately local WiFi was useless and so were both of our hot-spots.\u00a0\u00a0 It was like we were back using a 9600 baud modem again.<\/p>\n<p>Then next morning we got on the road early and headed east again on US 2 up to Norridgewock for cut down to I 95 north toward Bangor, Maine.\u00a0\u00a0 Our campground was in Trenton just next to the causeway to Mt.
