{"id":1973,"date":"2017-07-25T21:40:54","date_gmt":"2017-07-26T04:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/?p=1973"},"modified":"2017-07-25T21:40:54","modified_gmt":"2017-07-26T04:40:54","slug":"winnie-dam-on-the-mississippi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/2017\/07\/25\/winnie-dam-on-the-mississippi\/","title":{"rendered":"Winnie Dam on the Mississippi."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NorthernMinnesota00020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1999\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NorthernMinnesota00020-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NorthernMinnesota00020-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NorthernMinnesota00020-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>We lucked out and found this campground at the last minute. \u00a0What a beautiful site it was in Winnie Dam Campground,\u00a0 built and managed by the ACOE (Army Corps of Engineers). \u00a0We had about 1\/2 a football field of clearing and trees around the RV for $12 a night. \u00a0 It only had 50 amp electric with no water or sewer hook ups, but there is a dump site that looked very nice.<\/p>\n<p>I knew the water situation before going, so I filled the 120 gallon water tank and emptied the other tanks prior to leaving Joe&#8217;s. \u00a0 \u00a0We really only need the electric so we can run both the AC&#8217;s. \u00a0 \u00a0We can run them both on the genny, but so far we have only been running it on our lunch breaks in the Interstate rest stops. \u00a0We get both AC&#8217;s and the microwave while parked on the hot tarmac. \u00a0 That is a pretty awesome capability when you think of it. \u00a0 Our genny is a quiet diesel, so it just sips from our engine&#8217;s tank and can power everything in the coach if we decide to boondock. \u00a0 We also have 4 house batteries and a 2,800 watt inverter that can also power everything except the AC&#8217;s quietly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NorthernMinnesota00019.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1998\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NorthernMinnesota00019-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NorthernMinnesota00019-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NorthernMinnesota00019-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>I ventured over to look at the dam on Lake Winniebigoshish, which is the Mississippi River. \u00a0 It says it&#8217;s 170 river miles from the headwaters, which seems odd as we were there the day before,\u00a0 couldn&#8217;t have been 60 miles as the crow flies.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s a very big lake!<\/p>\n<p>While I was walking over there, I was scoping out the exit to see if I could get out of the woods with the car attached or if I needed to hook it up afterward.\u00a0\u00a0 I was able to maneuver out with the car attached.<\/p>\n<p>Off to Duluth&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We lucked out and found this campground at the last minute. \u00a0What a beautiful site it was in Winnie Dam Campground,\u00a0 built and managed by the ACOE (Army Corps of Engineers). \u00a0We had about 1\/2 a football field of clearing and trees around the RV for $12 a night. \u00a0 It only had 50 amp &hellip;
