{"id":1727,"date":"2017-07-07T19:03:44","date_gmt":"2017-07-08T02:03:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/?p=1727"},"modified":"2017-07-07T19:03:44","modified_gmt":"2017-07-08T02:03:44","slug":"fourth-of-july-in-cody-wy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/2017\/07\/07\/fourth-of-july-in-cody-wy\/","title":{"rendered":"Fourth of July In Cody Wy."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Cody00010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1744\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Cody00010-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Cody00010-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Cody00010-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>This is small town America!\u00a0\u00a0 It started out with the proverbial 4th of July parade down Main Street.\u00a0\u00a0 Lots of cowboys and cowgirls, old cars and trucks, \u00a0marching bands, a few floats, and the inevitable Shriner&#8217;s in their small go carts, these all having tortoise shells for bodies.\u00a0\u00a0 The little kids loved it.<\/p>\n<p>The marching bands really had to watch their step due to all the horses that preceded them in the parade.\u00a0\u00a0 The fire trucks were showering the kids on the side of the road.\u00a0\u00a0 And it turned out the Grand Marshal of the parade this year was the Sheriff of Absaroka <a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Cody00011.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1745\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Cody00011-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Cody00011-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Cody00011-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>County,\u00a0 and he even had his sidekick Ferg.\u00a0\u00a0 Only Starbuck was missing,\u00a0 that was a bummer!<\/p>\n<p>We also got to see that last mounted Marine Color Guard in existence.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve\u00a0 seen lots of Marine Color guards living in San Diego, but never one mounted on horseback.<\/p>\n<p>I still think the Coronado 4th Parade is the best.\u00a0\u00a0 Maybe it&#8217;s the cool weather&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0 But had Starbuck been there&#8230; you never know.<\/p>\n<p>We decided to skip the Rodeo due to the heat. \u00a0Moving it up to 5 from 8 pm was putting it in the hottest part of the day here.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t get dark here till close to 10 pm, so that is when the fireworks begin tonight.<\/p>\n<p>We drove over to the hospital parking lot where we could see the fireworks going off,\u00a0 amazingly there was only a small crowd.\u00a0\u00a0 Nothing like trying to get to a fireworks display in San Diego.\u00a0\u00a0 We brought the dogs and chairs and it was great.\u00a0 Dusty was bored with it till someone walked behind him and he perked up to growl.\u00a0\u00a0 Baxter was a bit scared and pushed his head into Kathy&#8217;s shoulder toward the end.<\/p>\n<p>They were shooting them off in a big field with lots of dried grass, so we also got to be entertained by the fires the falling embers started. \u00a0 One of the flareups got fairly big where the flames looked to be 10 feet tall or so, but before long that one seemed to burn itself out. \u00a0 We couldn&#8217;t see anyone fighting the fires prior to us leaving after the show. \u00a0I was hoping all the firemen in the parade weren&#8217;t at the bars!<\/p>\n<p>Kathy mentioned it was odd as almost no one there spoke, no oohs or ahhs at all.\u00a0 And there were some very sophisticated (expensive) fireworks,\u00a0 a few I have not seen before. \u00a0And no music. \u00a0Not like the Lake Murray fireworks at all. \u00a0I hope you all that went there had a great time!!!<\/p>\n<p>There was a bit of traffic on the way out, though, because they don&#8217;t have many intersections with traffic lights, so that reminded me of home.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow we are off to Buffalo, Wy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is small town America!\u00a0\u00a0 It started out with the proverbial 4th of July parade down Main Street.\u00a0\u00a0 Lots of cowboys and cowgirls, old cars and trucks, \u00a0marching bands, a few floats, and the inevitable Shriner&#8217;s in their small go carts, these all having tortoise shells for bodies.\u00a0\u00a0 The little kids loved it.
