{"id":1301,"date":"2017-06-14T08:50:02","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T15:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/?p=1301"},"modified":"2017-06-14T08:50:02","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T15:50:02","slug":"mesa-verde-national-park-colorado-pretty-close-to-four-corners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/2017\/06\/14\/mesa-verde-national-park-colorado-pretty-close-to-four-corners\/","title":{"rendered":"Mesa Verde National Park Colorado, pretty close to Four Corners."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our campground was just across the highway from the visitor center, so we popped in to pick up some maps and guidance for walking the pups in the park.\u00a0\u00a0 This is a really big park.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like an hour and a half from the visitor center to the main cave dwellings.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ts really different from Montezuma Castle as we were above them instead of below.\u00a0 This place is even cooler. \u00a0You can climb down into the structures.\u00a0\u00a0 They warn you about how strenuous it will be and all the ladders you must climb, etc.\u00a0 Narrow two-foot-tall tunnels, etc.\u00a0\u00a0 I held off purchasing any tickets today as I don&#8217;t like heights.\u00a0 Climbing 30 feet up a cliff face on a wooden ladder wasn&#8217;t all that appealing.<\/p>\n<p>We drove to all the overlooks, the first one was the Cliff Palace and it was incredible.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MesaVerde00004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1316\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MesaVerde00004-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MesaVerde00004-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MesaVerde00004-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>i didn&#8217;t know there were about 25 different dwellings until a ranger stopped by to pet the pups and told me about them.\u00a0 I knew of three prior to arriving at the park: \u00a0the Cliff Palace, \u00a0the Balcony, and the Spruce House.\u00a0 But there are lots more to look at over on the Mesa Top Loop.\u00a0 The best part was the pups were allowed to go on most of the trails over there and were allowed into all the buildings on that side.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MesaVerde00025.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1315\" src=\"http:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MesaVerde00025-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MesaVerde00025-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cowlesmountain.com\/Travels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MesaVerde00025-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Toward the end of all the loops, we came to an overlook of the Cliff Palace from the opposite side of the canyon.
